Remembering what God has done

There are several times in the old Testament where God commands us to remember what He has done.  Of ten after those times the Israelites set up an Ebenezer, a place to remember what God had done.  After they crossed the Jordan River Joshua told them to gather 12 rocks from the bottom of the River to remember how they walked across on dry land.

 

After acting out the story we made our own rocks of rememberance so we can remember what God has done for us.  I wrote down my boys, because I had a miscarriage before having them and there were some problems with the pregnancy.  Their birthday is coming up, so I’m feeling sentimental about them.  I also wrote down I’m thankful that God brought Jeff into my life.  We first met at a dance our church had and we both had about 3 other things we were supposed to go to that night, but both felt we were supposed to be there.

 

Batman colored a rock yellow to remember God keeping our family safe.  Princess didn’t quite understand and she colored a lady bug.

Fall of Man

The man and woman had been in the garden for a while now and really loved living there.  One day the snake came up and started asking the woman questions “Did God really say you can’t eat from this tree?  Are you sure it’s not allowed?”

 

Yes, God said we’re not allowed to eat or even touch this tree, or else we will die!”

 

“You won’t die!  Look at how yummy this fruit looks,” said the snake.

 

“It does look good,” so the woman tried it and then she gave it to the man.

 

As soon as they ate the fruit, they realized they were naked!  So, they made clothes for themselves out of leaves.  “What will we do?” the moaned.

 

As they were trying to decide what to do, they heard God calling for them, “Children!”

 

“Oh no,” said the man, “We’re going to get in trouble!”  So they ran and hid.

 

But, God knows everything, and knew where they had hidden.  “Come out children!”

 

God was very sad, because they had not obeyed Him.  He told them what was going to happen.

 

“Work will be hard now, and you will not like it.  Raising children will also be hard.  But there is hope, someday there will be a child, and He will punish the snake.  He will crush the snake and defeat the snake.”

 

The man named the woman Eve because she was the mother of all people.  The man was named Adam.

Creation of Man

 

God spent a long a long time making the world.  It had taken 5 days to make everything up until now, and no the sixth day He spent a long time making all of the land animals.  His shining creation wasn’t done yet, God had the biggest thing to come.

 

 

 

God took some dirt and molded it into the shape of a man.  Then He breathed into the man’s nose the breath of life.  God looked at the man He had created and was very proud of it.

 

 

God told the man to name all of the animals.  So the man spent a long time going through and naming them.  He looked at the thing flying through the air and said “Bird!”  Then he looked at the wiggly thing in the water and said, “Octopus!”  But after all of this work naming things the man couldn’t find anyone special for him.  All of the animals had someone special to be with, but the man did not.

God saw man had learned his lesson and put man to sleep.  While man was sleeping God reached into his body and took a rib.  From it God formed woman.  She was exactly the person man needed.  She could help him in all of the ways an animal could not.  She could talk to him and love him and help him.  Animals can not do that.

The man said, “You are Woman!  We will work together and be happy together.  We will have many babies together.”  Then he kissed her (or so my kids swear).
